Married into our family, John Julius Angerstein was born in Russia in 1732 before moving to London in teenage years. He became a prominent merchant and banker, and supporter of the arts. He acquired an enviable art collection including works by Rubens, Turner, Rembrandt and Hogarth. After his death in 1823, his collection formed the nucleus of the National Gallery, built in Trafalgar Square, London
Of this John Julius? Marrying into John Julius Angerstein's family, he was born in Scotland before moving to Australia in childhood. He became a prominent physician, and admirer of the arts.
